Freeee, Freeee blogggggin!

So I have the chance to free blog this week so I'll tell you a bit about what i did this weekend. First off, I started by working at my father's restaurant on Friday night. I wasn't too bad, a little busy, but that's the norm for Friday nights. Saturday morning I didn't do much of anything other that sit at home and do some homework play a little soccer. It was a beautiful day and there was no reason not to play some futbol. Saturday night I worked at the restaurant again and waited tables. It wasn't as busy as it was on Friday night, but it was busy compared to other days of the week. In other news, lake Hartwell is hosting the Bass Maters tournament and my roommate is ecstatic about it! My roommate is a bit of a redneck, so you'll understand. Well, it's Sunday night and I'm off to play a little indoor soccer at Fike with the teammates! Until next time!

Cover letter Response

After watching the tutorial my initial reaction is, "Haha, they just told me to fool one of my own references!" It gave me some great insight though. I did not know half the stuff that the website taught me. I liked the points that it made about "The Reality of Coverletters." The section about the reality of coverletters tells the reader that coverletters are important but they are not looked at until the employer is actually interested in the employee. Once the employer becomes interested in the employee, the employer returns to the coverletter to get additional information about the prospect. I also learned that bigger companies are more prone to hire people from career fairs and college-type job fairs as opposed to "freelance" job seekers. The P.S. technique is also one that I have never really thought about but it makes sense that it would be a good technique. It shows the person reading that the person seeking employment is thinking about the job and trying to impress instead of just sending resumes to all kinds of companies and just hoping that something would come of it. The most useful part of the tutorial for me was the part that talked about selling the benefits and not the product. After reading many things about persuasion, I see that selling the benefits is more effective at persuading than just selling the product; it gives more logos as to why it would be good to hire the person.

Ethos, Pathos, Logos...

What I read for my persuasion blog can be found here. It wasn't so much an article but a debate website in which you can see what people are arguing about and take part and put in your two cents. Obviously when you are you are trying to convince someone of something. To do you you should use persuasive techniques such as ethos, pathos, and logos. Now, I do believe in religion, but if I were a person looking to be convinced that religion is good and I looked at this article, then I would have been convinced that religion is more bad than good. The arguments that were saying that religion was more good than bad were weak. They tried to use logos by saying that if it were not for religion, then technology would not have come as far along as it has. Well, that argument didn't speak to me. The other side of the coin was that religion is more bad than good. Advocates of the "more bad than good" argument use pathos to convince me and they do a much better job by telling me about a kid who is being sentenced to death because of religion. Proper use of ethos, pathos, and logos really does make a difference in persuading.

Web 2.0

This video was, in my opinion very artsy and creative. I think it was talking about technology and how it has changed our everyday lives. It was talking about "Web 2.0" which is just a term describing the way the web is being used by current generations. It is being used as a more creative way to express ourselves. The world is so small now relative to how it was before technology enabled humans to communicate faster than we've ever been able to. In terms of how "Web 2.0" will change my work experience, well, it will change a lot! For one, conferencing will no longer require traveling back and forth to get somewhere and talk to some people for 2 hours. When you want to communicate with someone 2000 miles away about whatever issue you have, it will be in the blink of an eye. You see that person face to face and be able to not only hear their voice, but observe their body language, their surroundings and other factors that would help you communicate more efficiently and accurately. People already in the workforce will be forced to adapt to the new technology and learn how to use it. Some people will find it hard and that might be the difference between them keeping their job or losing it. I do not know what it means when it says we'll have to rethink everything, i guess it means that with the new technology, there will be countless ways to do things that we used to do; therefore, we'll have to "rethink everything" in terms of how we do things!

Hello everyone, my name is Rene. I'm a business management major from Seneca, SC. I've lived here since I was 5 and I've grown up a Clemson Tiger. I hate the Gamecocks. My birthday is coming up soon and I turn 21!!! My parents are both from Mexico and I was born in California. I speak spanish and english fluently and I'm working on learning french. A lot of people ask me whether I speak english or spanish at home, and the answer to that is spanish. Then they ask if I think in spanish or english, and the answer to that is that it depends on what I'm thinking about. I enjoy playing soccer, snowboarding and skating. I play soccer for Clemson and I've loved every minute of it, despite having an awful season this past season. I also love to watch movies! I don't know who would know this, but the title to this post is a quote from Austin Powers! That's all I've got for today!
